Jamie Nye: Mayweather vs. McGregor will be hard to ignore

June 15, 2017 - 8:09am

It's actually happening.

After months of speculation, Floyd Mayweather, the biggest name in boxing, will fight Conor McGregor, the biggest name in mixed martial arts.

This is a boxing match, which puts McGregor at a clear disadvantage but who cares about who is going to win or how much money this is going to make. This is just sports entertainment at its finest.

You have the mouth of McGregor, who has been trolling Mayweather on Twitter for a week about his age.

Mayweather is one of the most accomplished yet despicable human beings in sports.

Boxing purists wouldn't be able to handle a McGregor victory, although in some part of their soul, want McGregor to knock Mayweather's unblemished record on its butt.

This is the most excited I've been for a fight since, well I can't remember. I wasn't even that interested in Mayweather-Pacquiao.

There are many rolling their eyes citing this to be a publicity stunt. Well, of course it is. But I'll guarantee many of those eyes will be watching August 26.
