A recent student from the Emma Lake Kenderdine campus of the University of Saskatchewan is now speaking out.
Last Thursday, the University of Saskatchewan announced it would be suspending classes at the campus until 2016 due to high costs to run the site, as well as the amount it would cost to bring the campus up to standard.
Student Joanne Bolen created an online petition and spread it over Facebook in hopes to bring it to the attention of the university administration that there are many people who don’t want the campus shut down.
“I’m an artist that has been going to the Kenderdine campus since 2006,” Bolen said. “I fell in love with the campus and I just couldn’t bear to see the place close down.”
Bolen originally found the petition emulator through a website called www.change.org, which offers to run an online petition through Facebook for your cause.
As of Tuesday when Bolen last checked, she was up to 1,400 people.
“This campus has been open since 1935, it opened during the depression and has influenced artists from around the world.”
She plans to send the petition to the university administration in hopes to show them there is a large interest in keeping the campus open.
