PHOTOS: Regina's North Central gets new mural
Volunteers from Regina and Texas are sprucing up Regina’s North Central neighbourhood with a colourful mural.
The volunteers working through Mission 6:10 have been painting since Saturday on the side of the Jolly Roger bar.
Rene Dufour-Contreras was asked to design the mural. He said it was inspired by First Nations imagery.
“The thing that we really wanted to promote was peace and pride. So, we have a dove and peace sign with some really bright colours,” said Dufour-Contreras.
Chriss Norris is a volunteer from Allen, Texas. She said they are getting positive feedback from the community.
“Every day people walk by or they park their cars and are going somewhere and they are very encouraging. They say, ‘Thank you,’ they ‘like it’, ‘good job’,” said Norris.
The cost of the mural is shared by the Jolly Roger and the Go Green program—a partnership between the City of Regina, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the North Central Community Association.
People are employed with the Go Green program to clean up recyclables after Saskatchewan Roughriders games. The profits are then reinvested in mural painting and North Central revitalization.
Mission 6:10 is working on several other projects this week, including events for children in the parks, construction and addictions workshops.
