Saskatoon police say one of their dogs and its handler are recovering after an incident this weekend.
It started around 4 a.m. Sunday when police report that they got calls about a vehicle driving erratically on 2nd Avenue North.
Police said a sergeant tried to perform a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped off before crashing near 19th Street West and Avenue C South. Two suspects allegedly fled the scene on foot from there.
A canine unit was brought in to try and track the suspects. The dog was able to follow one person to a yard on Avenue G South.
The 54-year-old man reportedly had three dogs of his own in the yard, and is accused of setting the animals on the police dog and officer.
The man was arrested after backup arrived on scene.
The 54-year-old is facing charges of possessing stolen property and assault.
Also arrested were a 19-year-old man, who is accused of being behind the wheel of the car. A 15-year-old girl who got out of the car at Idylwyld Drive and 33rd Street was also charged with obstruction and breach of undertaking.
Both the police dog and its handler had to be treated for injuries and are reported to be on the mend.
