Grief counsellors will be brought in to the Big River Mill on Thursday after a worker was fatally injured doing maintenance work Tuesday night.
The worker’s name has not been released but RCMP say the 31-year-old man from the Shellbrook area was married with children.
RCMP say emergency services responded to the work place injury at the sawmill on Tuesday night. The man was hurt while doing maintenance on equipment but died from his injuries before crews got to the scene.
The mill is owned by Carrier Forest Products. President Bill Kordyban told paNOW that workers at the mill are quite broken up over what happened.
The incident is being investigated by the Big River RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety.
Kordyban would not go into detail about what happened, explaining he did not want to influence the investigation. He said the company will fully cooperate with investigators.
There are roughly 100 people employed at the mill.
