One couple from Saskatoon won’t soon forget today’s deciding Game 5 in the American League Divisional Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers.
For the past seven years the two have been saying if the Jays were to make the playoffs they would go to a game. This year, possibly thinking the Blue Jays wouldn’t make the playoffs, they booked a trip down East. But when the Blue Jays did in fact make the playoffs, Sonia Sick knew she had to get tickets.
“I wasn’t sure it was going to work, but I decided to look on Stub Hub,” said Sick. “I came across some tickets and decided I had to do it. So I bought them as a surprise for his birthday.”
“The stressful part was trying to figure out flights because we already had flights and accommodations booked in Quebec. It was a bit of a risky move but it all paid off.”
As mentioned the tickets were supposed to be a surprise for Jason’s birthday, but he said that didn’t quite work out as planned.
“When my wife booked the tickets she used my Stub Hub account,” Jason said with a laugh. “So I got an e-mail at work saying that I purchased game five tickets. I kind of put two and two together and I didn’t really want to let her know that I knew the surprise. So, I guess I secretly knew in advance and then we she told me I did my best to act a surprised as I could.”
To Sonia’s credit she did try and delete the e-mail before it got to Jason, but that obviously didn’t work.
In any case the two will be in the stands watching the biggest Blue Jays game in recent memory. Sonia said if you see a woman down the first base line looking sick to her stomach, it will probably be her.
“I was so nervous watching game four that I felt nauseous,” said Sick. “Now I’m thinking watching game five live might be a bad idea because I don’t know how I will handle the actual game.”
