The locker room was full of optimism for the future of the organization on Sunday.
With one second left of play, the Saskatoon Hilltops and the crowd burst into shouts of jubilation as the toppers downed the Okanagan Sun 38-24 at Saskatoon Minor Football Field Saturday.
This is the Hilltops’ 5th championship trophy in six years, but the first win on home turf since 2010.
Head coach Tom Sergeant credits the veteran 5th year players for stepping up and making the big plays. Evan Turkington put up a late touchdown to seal the win.
“And what great energy from the crowd. It just translates to this field. I’ve been here a long time and I have not felt this type of energy,” he said. “I thank Saskatoon and this crowd for really helping us.”
