The new year has brought some new costs for people living in Regina.
As of Jan. 1, water rates in Regina increased by five per cent, or $7.40 per month for the average consumer.
At the landfill, small loads – less than 200 kilograms – now cost only $10 to dump, down from $15. Meanwhile, loads more than 200 kg cost $80 per tonne, up from $75 per tonne.
People who own pets will have to get their 2016 dog and cat licence.
Another increase will hit people who use Regina Transit. In September 2014, Regina city council approved raising transit rates over three years.
Basic fares went up 25 cents each on Jan. 1, with post-secondary and adult passes increasing eight and nine dollars respectively. The senior annual pass saw an increase of $36.
New Year’s Day brought a decrease for what people across the province are paying for natural gas. SaskEnergy’s new rates came into effect on Jan. 1. The decrease will see customers paying $4.42 less per month – a total savings of $53 per year.
