Preliminary hearing begins for 1 of 2 accused in Hannah Leflar murder

The preliminary hearing has begun at Regina’s provincial court for one of the teens charged in the murder of 16-year-old Hannah Leflar.
 
Leflar was found murdered in her north Regina home a year ago this month.
 
Due to a publication ban, the witnesses and testimony heard at the preliminary hearing cannot be reported. It is underway to determine whether there is enough evidence to go to trial.

As the hearing began on Monday, half of the courtroom was filled with about a dozen family members representing the murdered girl. They sat quietly in court.
 
The now 17-year-old boy accused, whose name cannot be reported because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, sat in the prisoner’s box, in a prison-issued t-shirt and sweatpants, occasionally making notes. None of his family appear to be present in court.
 
The other teen charged in this case opted to go straight to trial.
