Committed to trial: 1 year since the murder of Regina teen Hannah Leflar

One year ago Tuesday, the unimaginable happened for one Regina family. Sixteen-year-old Hannah Leflar was found murdered in her north Regina home.
 
Two teenagers were charged with first-degree murder and are in custody awaiting Court of Queen’s Bench trials.
 
Leflar attended Thom Collegiate and a friends held a candlelight vigil in her memory shortly after her death.
 
“She was one of the sweetest people you would want to meet, she was always smiling.”
 
“She was such a nice person, there was nothing bad about her she just wanted to make people happy.”
 
“No matter what kind of mood she was in, if you were upset or dealing with something she’d drop anything and be there for you.”
 
The shock continued for many of these teens when the two boys were charged.
 
There were numerous bail hearings and then in October, one of the teens elected to go straight to trial.
 
A preliminary hearing, scheduled to end this week, wrapped up early when the second teen committed to trial.
 
For the family of the murdered girl, it has been an emotional week. Under the shadow of the one-year anniversary of her death, they attended every day of the preliminary hearing, with particular parts of what was heard leaving them in tears.
 
In court, the teen in the prison box displayed little to no emotion.
 
In information previously released by Regina Police Service, Leflar‘s body was found inside a home on the 400 block of Garnet Street North Jan. 12. Police have not released how she died.

The Crown has stated it intends to seek adult sentences should the teens be convicted.
