An Edmonton hair salon is ditching pricing based on a client’s gender and are now charging for haircuts based on how long they take.
Speaking with the CJME Morning Show on Thursday, Adara Hair & Body Studio co-owner Rebecca Wollenberg said the shop had been considering the change for some time now. Being big supporters of the LGBT community, Wollenberg said they would often get questions from clients as to why one gender would pay a different price for the same cut the other gender would get.
Prices would differ some $20 between men and women’s cuts.
“We just decided that it wasn’t something we couldn’t let go and it was time for us to make a change.”
Now cuts will have three pricing levels: buzzcuts, short/medium cuts and longer.
“It’s not about the sex. It’s absolutely about the length of hair.”
Wollenberg admitted that some of their stylists have concerns about losing money overall. However, the shop hopes things will balance out now that men with longer hair will be paying more for their cut, and women with shorter hair will be paying less.
