These difficult economic times is not affecting the amount of people flying out of Regina.
A news release from the Regina International Airport states 1,255,957 people got on a plane and flew from the Queen City in 2015. That number is down 0.5 per cent from 2014 — or about 6,500 passengers.
Airport Authority CEO Dick Graham said with passenger numbers relatively flat, they are pleased with these figures in light of the economic uncertainty of last year. Graham added 2015 appeared to be status quo which by all accounts was a good place to be within the industry.
The amount of travelers in 2016 is expected to grow by 2 per cent or roughly 25,000 passengers.
Graham stated in the news release the airport’s ten year annual average growth rate (2005-2015) is around 4.2 per cent.
As of November, air travel at the world’s major airports was up 6.2 per cent compared to the previous year.
