Hobbs collects hat trick, Regina Pats extend winning streak to 4 games

The Regina Pats got most of their offence from two players in a thrilling 7-5 victory over the Kootenay Ice in front of 4,884 fans at Brandt Centre Friday night.

Pats defenseman Connor Hobbs potted a hat trick against his younger brother Declan (the starting goaltender for the Ice), and forward Adam Brooks collected two goals and four assists.

Both teams traded goals for most of the game until Hobbs tallied two quick ones in the final ten minutes. That would put the Queen City kids up by two but the Ice continued to pressure. Ice defenseman Tanner Lishchynsky potted his fifth of the year with 31 seconds left to get the visiting team within one. Pats forward Austin Wagner scored his 22nd of the season in an empty net with five seconds remaining to seal the win.

Hobbs finished the night with four points, giving him 17 goals and 35 points on the season.

Brooks extended his point streak to nine games. He has 24 points during that stretch (six goals and 18 assists). This season, he’s recorded a team leading 33 goals and 62 assists for 95 points.

Brooks also scored a hat trick, and had four points, in a 4-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday night.

Chase Harrison collected the other goal for Regina Friday night.

Zak Zborosky (2), Noah Philip, and Shane Allan added the other goals for Kootenay.

Pats goaltender Tyler Brown finished with 26 saves while Declan Hobbs turned aside 31 shots.

The Pats have won four games in a row and try for their fifth straight Sunday afternoon at Brandt Centre against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The puck drops at 4 p.m.

2. Adam Brooks – Another exceptional night for the Pats veteran forward with six points on the scoresheet (two goals and four assists). Brooks extended his point streak to nine games.
3. Austin Wagner – Overshadowed by two great performances, Wagner potted one goal and added two assists for the Pats.
