The Kelsey Trail Health Region issued a news release Friday morning stating the Nipawin Hospital and Pineview Lodge were temporarily closed due to a “security situation”.
Police now said a 911 call came in at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday indicating there were explosives at the hospital.
RCMP investigated and determined there were no suspicious explosive materials at the hospital.
They received another call from a person who allegedly wanted to harm themselves. A third “threatening” call came in at 6 a.m.
Police said the calls came from the same Nipawin phone number. RCMP are still investigating the situation.
The Nipawin Medi-Clinic remains open. The situation also caused a temporary bypass of the Nipawin Hospital Emergency Room.
The public is being asked to stay away from the hospital and emergency room. People needing emergency medical care should call 911 or visit hospitals in Melfort or Tisdale.
The health region is asking family members to direct inquiries about Pineview Lodge residents to 306-862-6179 and inquiries about Nipawin Hospital patients to 306-862-6178.
