It came down to one bounce.
Pats goalie Tyler Brown lost the puck for mere moments and Adam Musil put it in. It was 2-1 Red Deer with seven minutes to go, and despite several chances including a fury in the last minute, it was over.
The team knew they were in tough against Red Deer. They hadn’t notched in win in the Rebels’ rink yet, but Tuesday night looked promising. It was 0-0 after the first period.
Red Deer struck first. Adam Helewka scored with five minutes left in the second. Pats forward Adam Brooks evened it up with just 12 seconds to go in the same period.
The Pats failed to convert on two power plays, but in in the end they the hit the net 33 times to the Rebels 26.
During the third period, the Pats did almost everything right. The Red Deer Rebels managed just four shots on net. They only needed one.
A heartbreaking 2-1 end to the season.
The Rebels will go on to play the Brandon Wheat Kings in the eastern finals.
