A train derailment sent more than a dozen cars off the tracks east of Saskatoon Wednesday.
Cleanup crews were at the scene near the village of Clavet shortly after 3:45 p.m.
Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway confirmed 17 cars in a westbound freight left the tracks near the area.
The rail company said twelve were empty, while five were loaded with cement.
“CP takes this incident extremely seriously,” CP spokesperson Salem Woodrow said in a statement Thursday.
“Once the derailment occurred, CP immediately enacted our emergency response processes to get teams and equipment to the site. Safety will be our top priority as we respond to this incident.”
After all repairs and safety inspections, CP said the siding track – a low-speed line– was reopened to traffic at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
There were no injuries and no leaks or fire; the derailed cars did not block any roads.
CP said local and government officials were notified of the incident.
The rail company confirmed a full investigation will take place into the cause of the incident.
