A prominent Moose Jaw defense lawyer is being accused of sexually assaulting a minor.
Estes Fonkalsrud, 41, is charged with sexual assault, assault, sexual interference of a person under 16, and invitation to sexual touching of a person under 16.
It stems from the early morning of Sunday, May 22, when RCMP were called out to the Buffalo Pound district for a complaint of a sexual assault.
Fonkalsrud was arrested then released on conditions, and will be in court again on these charges in July.
Fonkalsrud has had a successful career as a lawyer in southern Saskatchewan for several years. He was the defense lawyer for Indian Posse founder Daniel Wolfe before he was killed.
The lawyer has also handled several cases in the public eye, such as one of the teens in a violent machete attack in 2014, Brandon Clark, who made a bomb-threat against SaskPower in 2007, and Barry Lasko, a severely disabled man who pleaded guilty to sharing child pornography in 2006.
