Even the hot stick of Sam Steel wasn’t enough to lift the Pats over Lethbridge Wednesday night.
For the second game in a row Steel scored two goals, but the two nights had different overtime outcomes – Tuesday’s a overtime win and Wednesday an overtime loss.
The first two goals and the lead went straight to the Hurricanes with Tanner Nagel scoring four minutes into the opening frame. His goal was backed up by one from Ryan Bowen around the 13 minute mark.
But that’s when Steel took over, scoring both his goals within about five minutes of each other. The teams went into the first intermission tied at two.
The Hurricane’s Tyler Wong struck 33 seconds into the second period. The teams traded penalties before Jordy Bellerive scored Lethbridge’s fourth goal of the match up. Leaving the Pats trailing 4-2 heading into the third period.
Regina didn’t give up however, and Adam Brooks scored at the five minute mark and extended his point streak to 21 games. With nine minutes left Jake Leschyshyn scored the equalizer that sent the teams into overtime, where the Hurricanes struck first and ended the game.
The Pats return home to the Brandt Centre Friday night at 7 p.m. against the Swift Current Broncos.
It’s also the team’s annual teddy bear toss, where the Pats invite you to bring a teddy bear which you will throw onto the ice after they score their first goal.
If you don’t have time to shop there will be some available at the game for purchase.
