Pats trade Luc Smith to Kamloops for defenceman Dawson Davidson

The Pats have added a Saskatchewan defenceman to the team after a trade with Kamloops, the club announced Tuesday.

Moosomin’s Dawson Davidson comes to Saskatchewan, while forward Luc Smith heads west to the Kamloops Blazers.

Davidson has three goals and 15 points this season and was a third round pick for Kamloops in 2013. Smith was a third round pick for the Pats in the same year. Since starting in the WHL he’s scored 12 goals and notched 14 assists.

“We are excited to add a young puck moving defenceman that can skate well,” said head coach and general manager John Paddock. “Dawson will fit well into our current team and in the future.”

Paddock also wished Smith well with his new team, who according to Blazers general manager Stu MacGregor is someone the team has had their eye on for a while.

“(Smith) is a big right-shot center that will be able to contribute at both ends of the ice. With the long-term injury to Matt Revel, we felt we needed to add a center.”

Davidson has already joined the team in Regina and could play with his new team as early as Tuesday night when they face off against Brandon at 7 p.m. at the Brandt Centre.

The Pats have a busy post-Christmas schedule that sees them play four games in six days leading up to a 4 p.m. home game on New Year’s Day.
