Pats beat Medicine Hat 6-2 to secure first place

The Pats got three goals on the board early and didn’t let go of the lead in a 6-2 win against the Medicine Hat Tigers Tuesday night. 

The win puts the Pats four points ahead of the Tigers who were challenging for first place. 

In the first period three Pats scored in six minutes. Sam Steel started the scoring followed by Jake Leschyshyn and Austin Wagner. 

Regina took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Tigers struck first in the second period with Steven Owre getting past goaltender Tyler Brown, but the Pats put the foot back on the gas and scored three more times in the second. 

Dawson Leedahl added a goal to his earlier assist, Connor Hobbs scored his sixteenth of the season and Steel notched his second goal of the game. 

The second period ended with the Pats up 6-1. 

Medicine Hat’s Ryan Jevne would score the only goal in the third period. 

The Pats sit in first place in the league with 59 points, three more than their closest challenger. 

They will be back at the Brandt Centre Friday against Calgary, which also happens to Blue Jays night. The Pats will wear specially designed jerseys that look similar to that of the Blue Jays. The jerseys will be auctioned off to fans with proceeds going to Jays Care, a charity that supports vulnerable youth. Toronto outfielder Ezequiel Carrera will be in attendance for the game.
