The Regina Pats seemed unstoppable in the first period, before it all fell apart.
The team scored four goals in ten minutes in the game’s opening frame before the Tri-City Americans broke through at the 11:16 mark.
Six minutes later, Filip Ahl scored the final goal the Pats would notch Friday night and the Americans went on to get five more unanswered goals.
Connor Hobbs started out the first period scoring less than a minute into the game with help from Adam Brooks. The Pats captain put up three helpers in the loss.
Jake Leschyshyn, Bryan Lockner and Dawson Leedahl would all pad the Pats lead before Tyler Brown let Michael Rasmussen get one past to make it 4-1.
Vladislav Lukin went on to score his first of two goals Friday in the last 90 seconds of the frame.
After closing the first period scoring, Lukin opened the scoring in the second period with his second goal. Jordan Topping added Tri-City’s fourth goal.
The Pats entered the third period still up 5-4 on their opponents.
Unfortunately it didn’t hold. Tyler Sandu scored the tying goal on the power play about seven minutes in. The game winner came off the hands of Maxwell James.
The final score was 6-5 for Tri-City.
The Pats are back in action at the Brandt Centre Saturday night against the Prince Albert Raiders. Puck drop is at 7pm.
