The Regina Pats have lost 17-year-old forward Jake Leschyshyn to a season ending knee injury, the club announced Monday.
The injury happened during the Pats Feb. 3 game versus Saskatoon.
Leschyshyn was in the midst of a career year with 17 goals and 40 points in 47 games this season.
Leschyshyn is eligible for the NHL draft this year and recently returned from Quebec City after playing in the CHL top prospects game. He’s currently ranked 31st in North America by the NHL’s Central Scouting Service.
“We are extremely disappointed for Jake” said Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock. “He was having a great season and has been a big part of our success so far this year.”
The Pats are currently in first place in the WHL, and were the first team in the entire Canadian Hockey League to secure a playoff spot.
They are back in action Tuesday night against the Everett Silvertips.
