Former Roughrider QB Mitchell Gale signs with Stampeders

He had three starts in the green and white and was at the helm for their first win of the season, but now Mitchell Gale is taking his talents to Calgary.

Gale was released by the Roughriders in January, making him a free agent before the frenzy began on Tuesday, but didn’t sign the deal until Thursday.

“I like Mitchell’s competitiveness and he has the arm to make all the throws,” said Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson on the team’s website. “I think he’s a good fit for our system and I’m excited about the opportunity to work with him.”

Calgary will be the fourth team Gale has been with in the CFL since he entered the league in 2013 as an Argo. In 2015, he was signed by the Tigercats before signing again with the Argos in 2016. In July, he was traded with Matt Sewell to the Roughriders in exchange for Shawn Lemon.

In 48 career regular-season games, Gale completed 88 of 158 passes for 1,050 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions. He has also rushed for 153 yards and two scores.

Gale will be working behind the 2016 CFL Most Outstanding Player, quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell. The Stamps also have QBs Drew Tate and Andrew Buckley on the roster.
