Your pocketbook could be seriously hit on March 22.
That is the day both the provincial and federal budget will be released.
“It’s a coincidence obviously, it will be a busy day, but we will just have to make do with that anomaly this year,” Finance Minister Kevin Doherty said.
Despite the clash, Doherty saw no reason to make any change to the provincial date.
“Typically, even if the budget comes out in mid-to-late February, we are so far along in our process that it doesn’t change things materially unless we have sufficient time to change things,” Doherty explained.
“It won’t change anything in our budget because if anything does come out that impacts where we may have to find dollars in the province we will obviously have to look at that as the course of the fiscal year goes on.”
The legislative calendar requires 28 days from budget to the end of session to allow for debate, meaning there is little wiggle room to change the provincial date.
