Riders resume selling season tickets after 3-year wait

For the first time in several years the Saskatchewan Roughriders are once again selling season tickets.

When the City of Regina announced it was going ahead with plans for a new stadium, the team decided to put a hold on selling around the same time.

“Early on we didn’t know how many seats we’d actually have in the new stadium so we really cut off season ticket sales at that time. Really, for three years we haven’t sold any season tickets,” explained Gregg Sauter, vice-president of business development and marketing for the Riders.

Even if, for one reason or another, seats were given up during that time, the team would still not sell those vacant spots.

“We held on to all those seats that came up and in many cases we were, for lack of a better word, kind of clawing back tickets and we were trying to gain as much room as we possibly could as we moved in to the new stadium,” he said.

“Our season ticket holders who’ve been season ticket holders are seated now and it’s going to allow us to go back and open up a certain number of seats, at least for new season ticket holders which we haven’t done in a few years.”

With the transition of moving current season ticket holders into the new venue complete, Sauter continued, that means the Roughriders can now focus on some 3,500 fans on a waiting list for tickets.

He said they’ve been contacting those on the list and will continue to do so each day.

“There’s no place in the country with fans like ours. We’ve got a pretty incredible fan base here and the demand is really strong. We’re thrilled and we can’t wait to deliver this stadium and let fans enjoy what we’ve all built here.”
