Donations still needed for Souls Harbour Easter meal

Souls Harbour is asking for Regina’s help to ensure everyone receives a warm plate of food this Easter.

Donations are still needed for the meal taking place at the Dean Smith youth centre Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Katrina Robinson, director of development for Souls Harbour, said they’re most in need of fresh items such as buns, coleslaw and pickles.

“We also need about 500 pieces of cake to come in,” she said.

Robinson noted last year they had around 450 people come to the meal, and they are expecting more this time.

“We know that school will be out on that Friday, so we’re expecting to see a larger number of families come.”

Along with food donations, the charity is also accepting “spring into summer” water bottles.

People can buy reusable water bottles and fill them with everyday hygiene items – such as a toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant —  which are then given out during the Easter meal.

“It’s a little token that we give to all of our guests, just as a nice present for them,” she said.

Robinson also encouraged people to toss in a little Easter chocolate as well for the kids.

It takes around 75 volunteers to pull off a meal this large, and Robinson added they are still looking for people to help on the day.
