A sold out crowd at the Brandt Centre watched the Regina Pats complete the series comeback and defeat the Swift Current Broncos in WHL playoff action.
Fans cheered loudly and were waving their playoff towels as the team cruised to a 5-1 victory. It was the first time the Pats were playing a Game 7 at home in 45 years and the fans weren’t going to let this opportunity pass them by.
980 CJME was at the game and talked to fans afterwards about how they were feeling.
“The Pats were down 3-1 and now we won! This is awesome, more hockey, I love it,” said Darlene Bissett.
“They had a chip on their shoulder from those tough games in Swift Current but they’re looking pretty good,” Pats fan Tim Assie said.
With Swift Current now in the Pats’ rearview mirror, fans are looking towards their next series: an Eastern Conference Finals showdown between the winner of the Tuesday night Lethbridge Hurricanes and Medicine Hat Tigers showdown.
“It could go either way,” Shawnelle Gusway said after the game. “Everybody thought this was going to be easy but it turned out not to be easy so it could go either way.”
“I think that Pats will win the next one, they’re playing the way they can now, I don’t think it’ll be close,” Derek Mercer said.
The Eastern Conference Final begins on Friday and tickets go on sale Tuesday at noon.
