The Buffalo Sabres vehemently denied a report Jack Eichel was trying to get coach Dan Bylsma fired.
A day later, it wasn’t only Byslma out the door but General Manager Tim Murray went with him.
Jack Eichel is 20 and has done absolutely nothing in the NHL, yet the owner felt the dissension in the locker room was enough to gun a Stanley Cup winning coach and the architect they tasked to turn the Sabres around.
Yes, the team showed no real improvement from last year but keep in mind they didn’t have their 20-year-old star for a good chunk of the season.
Things seemed to be going in the right direction.
I truly feel sorry for Tim Murray who could have had Connor McDavid, who has been a consummate professional and leader in Edmonton but he lost the lottery and got the second best guy.
Maybe we should better understand Murray’s rage when he lost the lottery. He likely knew McDavid was a better player on and off the ice.
