Vince Young didn’t embarrass himself.
So he’s going to attend Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp next month in Saskatoon. As long as he didn’t gain 20 pounds, trip over his own feet or have every pass intercepted during mini-camp in Florida, Young was going to get invited to training camp.
The team has invested itself in Young’s comeback and, indeed, Head Coach Chris Jones has placed him right behind starting Quarterback Kevin Glenn on the depth chart.
Young is big and strong. He can throw a football.
He used to be able to run, but he’s about to turn 34 and hasn’t played an NFL regular-season game since 2011.
After throwing passes for three light workouts, it’s way too early to ascertain if Young understands the new, Canadian game. That will start becoming obvious during training camp, moreso in exhibition games.
And the Riders are going to give him that chance.
