Let Vince Young be a lesson to those young kids who were picked in round one of the NFL Draft last night.
As quickly as the rise to being a first round pick is, the fall from grace can be just as quick.
Young is a 34-year-old quarterback who has just finished a mini-camp with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Young was picked third overall by the Tennessee Titans. He was heralded as having the potential to being the next best thing. NFL rookie of the year. Cover of EA Sports video game Madden.
Then the crash. The wrong people gathered around Young. He trusted them, stopped working hard and before he knew it, his millions were gone and so was his NFL career.
There are many more examples of players like Young. On draft day, they’re heralded as the future. They get millions. But it’s one thing to get to the NFL. It’s another thing to stay there.
Hopefully, some of these young kids celebrating their big pay day learn from the mistakes of their predecessors and get better advice and guidance than was given to Vince Young.
