Lumsden Lynx hosts Female Hockey Day to celebrate young women and girls in sports

The day-long event welcomes over 250 female hockey players from ages four to 22.
The Regina Pats are winning big on the ice and have won big off the ice with four WHL awards.
Pats forward Sam Steel was named the league’s Player of the Year, beating out Seattle’s Matt Barzal for the honour.
Steel’s 131 points (50 goals, 81 assists) also got him the Bob Clarke Trophy for most points this season.
Steel wasn’t the only one taking home hardware from the league’s award luncheon on Wednesday.
Head Coach John Paddock was also awarded the league’s Coach of the Year as well as Executive of the Year for his work building the team and then leading them to the WHL’s best record.
Paddock is in his third year with the team and this is the second time he’s won Coach of the Year, taking home the award in 2015.
The Regina Pats were also given the league’s marketing award.
The Pats are now getting ready to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL Championship series that begins Friday at the Brandt Centre.
The Thunderbirds did get one win over the Pats at the awards luncheon as Ochapowace, Saskatchewan’s Ethan Bear beat out Pats’ defenseman Connor Hobbs for the league’s top defenseman.
