Seven months ago, Nabeel Nooran was at the We Connect Job Fair looking for work.
Now, he’s helping other newcomers to Canada find employment.
Nooran was hired by Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in Blairmore after making connections at the October 2016 job fair.
“I applied online, followed up with an email and that’s how I got an interview, followed by a job,” he said.
Nooran was back at the 2017 edition of Open Door’s job fair Wednesday, but this time he was on the other side of the table helping answer questions about working for the bank.
“I was so excited when my boss asked me to help out with the fair today, to help others like RBC helped me,” he said.
Reflecting on hiring Nooran, RBC Branch Manager Kathy Richard remembered that he showed up with the right attitude.
“He came dressed and ready to look for a job, that’s what made him stand out,” she said.

The Saskatoon Open Door Society job fair was hosted at Marion M. Graham Collegiate.
Nooran came to Canada in Sept. 2016 from Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates, where he worked for 10 years in the banking industry.
“Most of my family lives in North America, so I wanted to be closer to them,” he said.
