'I heard a big pop:' Fire damages Eastview business

Regina Fire & Protective Services were busy Friday night with a building fire in the Eastview neighbourhood.

Stephanie Amos with SRG Security, was the first one to call about the flames inside the Prairie Sign store, on McDonald street.

“I made the call at 8:35 p.m. I was just leaving the work office when I heard a big pop from across the street,” she said.  “The next thing I saw was the big garage bay in flames.”

Fire crews were quick to respond as Deputy Fire Chief, David Kinvig said it only took six minutes for fire trucks to arrive. Fire fighters were first using water to extinguish the flames and then started using class a foam, as the buildings insulation caught fire and wasn’t wanting to quit.

Amos added she works in the area and found it odd how this was the second building to catch fire in less than a week, referring to this past week’s massive blaze at the old GM assembly plant.

“It’s a little strange, especially with them (old GM assembly plant) only being a couple blocks away from each other,” she said. “I mean obviously things can happen inside of buildings, but I don’t know, to me it seems suspicious, but who knows right?”

No injuries were reported and investigators will determine the cause next week.
