Memorial Cup, centennial season sells Pats tickets fast

After a season that saw them finish at the top of the WHL, Regina Pats tickets were a hot item Thursday.

Season tickets went on sale at noon at the Pats’ office and online.

A line of about 30 people waited to get their hands on the ticket packages for the team’s 100th anniversary.

Sheila Obst was the first person to get tickets for the upcoming season.

Obst said she had been cheering for the Pats her whole life but last year’s team was what finally convinced her to grab the ticket package.

“We stood in line several times for playoff tickets and saw them in action before and yes, we were impressed,” Obst said. “(We) hope that next year is as good as last year.”

Another longtime fan deciding it’s time for season tickets is Darwin Mott. He said he’s been a fan of the Pats since he was seven, which is about 60 years ago.

“Last year’s team was probably the most exciting I’ve seen ever, and I just wanted an opportunity to support them,” Mott said.

Pats COO Stacey Cattell said this excitement around the team has been building for the past few years.

“We want to be a championship team, we want to be a leading team in the Canadian Hockey League,” Cattell said.

There was also excitement among fans about the upcoming Memorial Cup. The tournament will also be celebrating 100 years of existence in 2018.

Tickets went fast and the Pats created a wait list for season tickets just before 2:30 p.m.

People can go online to signup for the wait list Friday morning.
