R.M., Assiniboia issues fire ban due to hot, dry conditions

It’s a good thing Canada Day has passed already, as people in the Assiniboia area won’t be able to enjoy fireworks for a while.

The R.M. of Lake of the Rivers, which includes Assiniboia, has issued a fire ban, effective Friday until August 18.

“Everything is so dry,” said Ellen Klein, the administrator of the R.M.

Klein explained fire crews in the area have already dealt with one fire this past week.

Now no burning of any kind will be permitted until mid-August. The ban includes incinerators not on a gravel or concrete pad, fireworks and open fires, including screened and unscreened fire pits or rings.

If fire prevention, suppression and emergency services are used, whoever requires the services will be charged with the bill.

Elsewhere, there are no provincial fire bans in place, according to the government’s website.
