The family of seven-year-old Meadow McElravey has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral costs.
The little girl was killed in a car crash near Belle Plaine on July 24, 2017.
Meadow’s mother, Trisha Healey, remains in hospital. She could remain in there for a number of weeks.
Meadow’s aunt, Jasmine Leont, started the GoFundMe campaign and couldn’t believe what had happened, but is choosing to remember all the good things about her niece.
“She was so smart and she loved pets, she loved any animal whatsoever,” Leont said through tears.
“She had a bunny and a dog and a cat and two ferrets before that.”
Leont worried that without help from the GoFundMe page, Trisha will struggle to pay for the funeral costs.
The Grand Coulee Recreation Board, the town where the two lived, posted about the accident on Facebook in hopes of raising money.
“Meadow just loved all that this town had to offer, from the playgrounds and parks, care free riding on her bike, to all her little friends in town,” the post stated. “As many have said, it takes a village to raise a child, and this cannot ring more true than right now.”
The RCMP are still investigating the crash, stating that an SUV, that the mother and daughter were traveling in, collided with a truck on the westbound lane of Highway 1.
The McElravey family are still in shock about their loss.
“Even in her daycare in Moose Jaw, she would help the other kids that weren’t learning or that wouldn’t talk to people, they would talk to Meadow,” Leont said. “She could talk to them to help them with the teachers. It was awesome.”
