I’m done with the NFL Preseason already and it sounds like more and more like the players are done with it too.
Back in the day, four games when players came to training camp to get in shape may have made sense but now it’s just a recipe for disaster as witnessed on Monday night when the New York Giants saw receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall get injured.
The other aspect is the numerous voluntary workouts or organized team activities that go on during the winter and spring before training camps.
The players are more ready now than ever, before training camp even starts and, for the most part, there aren’t that many jobs up in the air going in. Maybe the second or third running back, fourth or fifth receiver and a DB or two but overall the 53 man roster is close to set.
So why four games, especially in an era when player safety is so paramount? Let’s get on with it already and cut the NFL down to two preseason games, which is yet another thing the CFL does right.
