What a slap in the face for the Vancouver Canucks. They were a once proud organization that were perennial Stanley Cup contenders and it seems like it wasn’t too long ago they went to game seven of the Cup final.
Now, they’re a joke.
Jason Demers turned down a trade to Vancouver from the Florida Panthers. He did accept one to the Arizona Coyotes.
Pardon?
Has the reputation fallen that much in Vancouver? Well, yes, yes it has. Poor management and owner influence has had Vancouver riding that balance between rebuild and staying in the post-season. They sign veterans to score goals rather than tear it all down and give playing time to younger prospects.
When teams are willing to choose the Coyotes over you, you have to start questioning the direction of your franchise.
The Sedins needed to go a few years ago, but now they have no value to the team or trade market.
And to add insult to injury, they lost 9-4 to the Vegas Golden Knights to start the pre-season.
It’s going to be a long painful road back in Vancouver.
