He may be the newest Pat, but he made the biggest impact Wednesday night.
Jared Legien, who joined the Pats last week in a trade from the Victoria Royals, scored twice in the 3-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings.
It is the Pats fourth straight win since coming back from their Christmas break.
Zach Wytinck opened the scoring in the first period for the Brandon Wheat Kings, allowing them a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission, but Matt Bradley responded in the second with his team-leading 25th of the year to tie things up in the second.
Both teams turned it on in the third, with Pilot Butte native Legien getting his first goal of the night on the power play after being fed by Jake Leschyshyn and Josh Mahura.
Brandon’s Ty Lewis evened things up about three minutes later with an unassisted goal, but Legien came storming back for his first multi-goal game in a Pats uniform and put his team up 3-2.
It looked as though the Wheat Kings may have tied things up late in the third period, however, Brandon’s goal was waved off by the officials because the net had been knocked off its moorings.
Regina was able to hang on through the final three minutes or so and secure the win.
Regina now sits at 20-18-3 and hold on to the first wild-card spot by two points.
The Pats travel to Swift Current on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
