Fresh off resigning from his position as speaker of the Saskatchewan legislature, Corey Tochor announced Monday that he plans to make the jump to federal politics.
Tochor held an event in Saskatoon to officially enter the race to take the federal Conservative nomination in Saskatoon-University ahead of the next federal election, due to take place in 2019.
Saskatoon-University is currently held by Conservative MP Brad Trost, who has won five elections since 2004.
Trost recently finished in fourth place in the May 2017 race to become leader of the federal Conservatives.
Tocher has served as the Sask. Party MLA in Saskatoon-Eastview since 2011. He was made speaker of the legislature in 2016.
Businessman Brad Redekopp has also announced a run to try and take the Conservative nomination from Trost.
