I feel for now former Blades head coach Dean Brockman.
Brockman is a good hockey man. He was a successful coach in the Saskatchewan Junior league with the Humboldt Broncos and we often wondered when he’d make the jump.
He was an assistant in Saskatoon for a few years until he got the job two years ago. He improved the team and then this year got the Blades to seven more victories and near the playoffs… but not enough to impress the general manager. Although, the GM traded away his top player and top defender before the trade deadline.
But Brockman is also a victim of a bad playoff format. The Blades have the seventh-best record in the conference but will miss the playoffs. Both Lethbridge and Red Deer are in despite having fewer points than the Blades.
Brockman was fired because he didn’t make the playoffs.
What a shame.
The Blades were a playoff team and Brockman improved them.
Someone is about to get a decent head coach.
