Cameron Hebig’s first – and second – playoff goals of his career lifted the Pats over the Swift Current Broncos Saturday night.
Regina had fallen behind 1-0 in the first round playoff series with a 3-0 loss Friday night but bounced back in game 2 to tie the series up at one game apiece.
Hebig’s first goal was set up by Sam Steel halfway through the first period when he backhanded it past Broncos goalie Stuart Skinner to give the Pats their first goal and first lead of the series.
The Pats held a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period went by without any scoring, but Hebig was back at it in the third with his second career playoff goal and the Pats’ second of the game.
Hebig scored on a one-timer from the point at the 5:45 in the third. That powerplay goal would be the eventual game-winner.
Pats goaltender Ryan Kubic –playing in just his second career playoff game – was solid in net, allowing just one goal by Kaden Elder past him about 13 minutes into the third period. His 32 save performance was good enough for second-star honours and his first career playoff win.
The final score was 2-1.
Regina was solid on the penalty kill Saturday, going seven of seven and was one for five on the powerplay.
The Pats and Broncos are back in action on Monday night at the Brandt Centre for game three.
Limited tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. puck drop.
