Flames burst out of the windows and smoke stretched up, filling the sky, when Lang’s Cafe burned down more than two weeks ago.
And while the results of the fire are obvious – there’s a charred black hole in the strip mall where the building used to be – the cause isn’t.
Deputy Fire Chief David Kinvig said they know the fire started in the back of the building, but don’t know what started it.
“We’ve been through the whole area back there – moved all the debris trying to find out – but we cannot determine a cause,” he explained. “There’s just nothing left there for us to really find anything that would give us an idea of what the cause would have been.”
This means the fire department won’t be able to figure out if the fire was set on purpose.
“You don’t have a cause, so we can’t determine… anything really, without having a cause,” said Kinvig.
The scene has been released by the fire investigators, as Kinvig said there’s nothing left for them to do there.
