I want to believe Brad Marchand when he says he’s going to take a long look in the mirror this off-season because he’s got some character issues that need to change.
Yes, recently, there was the licking incident that made the headlines, but it’s been more than that. For a player with the talent of Marchand, there have been too many run-ins with players safety.
The reaction to the lick and his other misdeeds has left many wanting more accountability.
And we finally heard it from him on the Bruins getaway day.
If Marchand turns into a player that can play to the line — and not cross it — he’ll be a player you can feel good about cheering for, rather than one to be embarrassed by.
Should we believe him?
I like to think of the best of people so of course, but again, it’s a situation where it’s sometimes easier to talk the talk.
We’ll see what happens when the puck gets dropped next season.
