Darrell Davis: Riders are now the CFL’s dumpster fire

All the GIFs, all the memes, all the columns that showed the Montreal Alouettes as the CFL’s dumpster fire — change them.

Insert the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Montreal had a 13-game losing streak heading into Saturday’s CFL game against the Roughriders. The losing streak is over, thanks to Montreal’s surprising 23-17 victory over Saskatchewan.

And all those questions about incompetency are now focused on the Roughriders.

Why is Duron Carter playing cornerback? The Roughriders’ offence has been putrid without Carter at wide receiver while he’s hurting the defence with bad penalties and getting beaten for long touchdown passes in back-to-back games.

Why don’t the Riders have any extra defensive backs or offensive linemen in camp? Why isn’t Brandon Bridge a better quarterback? Who’s going to start at quarterback Thursday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats? How come the Riders offensive line is so bad? Why can’t the offence run the football? Why didn’t they use Jerome Messam? Why can’t the offence get into the red zone?

All these questions — and only one win in three games — as the dumpster fire keeps growing.
