Highway 1 east of Moosomin is now open after being partially closed Wednesday night due to a fire.
The highway was closed from the small town to the Manitoba border to ensure firefighters and volunteers were safe as they worked to get the fire extinguished as it burned along the south side of the road.
Despite the smoke causing visibility issues, several cars were on the highway before it was closed but kept going at normal highway speeds. RCMP said that creates a dangerous situation for emergency workers who are battling the fire.
According to the Highway Hotline, it was a train that sparked the grass fire.
Several buildings are said to be destroyed.
