One week before the Regina-Northeast byelection, the NDP has said the Saskatchewan Party candidate has some explaining to do.
Gary Grewal donated more than $2,000 to the Liberal Party of Canada dating back to 2013 and as recently as December 2017.
The NDP questioned why he supported the carbon tax but has not changed his stance while running for the Sask. Party.
In a statement issued by Grewal, he said he used to be a supporter of the federal Liberal party.
“However, due to the Trudeau government’s plan to impose a costly and ineffective carbon tax on Saskatchewan families, I no longer support the federal Liberals either financially or with my vote. Unlike the NDP who support a carbon tax in Saskatchewan, I stand with Saskatchewan families and Premier Scott Moe in fighting the Trudeau carbon tax,” Grewal said.
The NDP points out Grewal’s last donation was about a year after the carbon tax was announced on Oct. 3, 2016.
NDP repeated its position on the carbon tax that the province needs a made-in-Saskatchewan plan that doesn’t penalize Saskatchewan families and industry.
