Regina-Lewvan MP Erin Weir is looking at appealing the harassment investigation which led to him being kicked out of the NDP.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said earlier this month he will not allow Weir back into the party after expelling him in May following the harassment investigation because his actions were considered a threat to workplace safety.
In a statement emailed from his office Wednesday, Weir said the NDP investigation did not give him any chance to officially appeal. So now he is seeking an external review of the process by the House of Commons human resources officer or the Human Rights Tribunal.
“Regardless of what an external appeal may determine, I apologize to those who felt uncomfortable and will be more attentive in future. What I do not accept is being expelled based on a single investigator’s discretion without an appeal,” Weir said.
Weir argues he has grounds for an appeal because the process began by soliciting anonymous complaints and was immediately escalated into a formal investigation. He also points out rather than evaluating each individual complaint, they were all lumped together finding that he stood too close and talked too long with people ending in a finding of harassment.
