Enough with the live mic games!
TSN came up with an innovative idea a few years ago to live mic coaches and quarterbacks so you at home can hear the play calls and some back and forth between the coach and officials.
Now, it’s gotten too much. Once a week we have live mic games. It’s become wallpaper. When it first goes on the wall, you notice it. After a while, it just blends in with the rest of the normal.
And that’s where we are with live mic games and the ratings indicate that it hasn’t drawn more people in at all. It’s the same people watching.
So it’s time to try something different. Rather than us hearing Zach Collaros call out ’50 x bullseye’ and yell fire fire pre-snap. Why not mic up other players on the field so we can maybe hear some of the smack talk back and forth?
File this under, a great idea at the time. But the television broadcast partner has to keep pushing the envelope and it could be as simple as a tweak to the current format.
