A 25-year-old man has been charged with assault following a standoff at a house in North Central on Monday.
Officers were called to the house near Dewdney Avenue and Retallack Street before noon to respond to a domestic assault.
Police confirmed on Tuesday they found a woman who had injuries consistent with a physical assault. It’s also believed the suspect also struck a young child. When officers arrived, they learned the child was in the care of another family member and had been taken to hospital.
The suspect initially refused to come out of the house and police blocked traffic on Dewdney Avenue between Rae Street and Robinson Street as they tried to negotiate with him.
Officers were gathered outside the house with guns drawn and the area was blocked to pedestrian and vehicle traffic as a precaution in case there were weapons inside.
After a few hours, officers took the suspect into custody and later charged him with assault and breach of undertaking.
